Why are even online or part time courses from western universities expensive?

Online and Part time courses from reputed universities across the world namely United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia and Germany cost more because of several key elements that add on to the quality of the program.

Technology demands in leading universities are high because of the complicated learning management systems, interactive tools, and extensive resources that guarantee the smooth delivery of courses but put a lot of pressure on the costs of programs. These institutions also strive for quality through the use of personnel such as highly paid professors with experience and industry specialists who are equally paid well, together with adequate student services which include; academic advisors, technical assistance, career guidance, and online library services.

Marketing and student recruitment, which refers another big cost since universities invest a lot of money in advertising their online courses around the world. Education expert John Katzman also adds that recruiting costs rise with each new student meaning that it doesn’t make much sense to increase enrollment numbers to gain efficiencies. As is evident, prestigious accreditations are capital intensive as Western universities have to constantly revise their curriculum to meet set international standards, undergo through quality assurance tests, ensure that they meet educational laws and regulations, and pay for the membership of institutions. Conducting courses fully online requires substantial investment on design and delivery that often call for instructional design, development of multimedia contents, frequent updates of the course content, and assessment tools.

These programmes of course, are delivered online but will still need significant levels of administrative support such as for the coordination of the programmes, management of student data, finances and international students. However, despite their higher costs, these programs offer distinct advantages that many find worthwhile: portability of qualifications, choice of flexible learning modes, contacts to the international market, rich learning and teaching resources, improved employability, and probability of acquiring higher returns on investment. When evaluating these programs, prospective students should consider several key factors: The features include, the program accreditation, payment methods, and modality, student services, and career advancement, and lifetime returns on investment.

Though there are cheaper options available the professionals prefer it the most for its credibility, quality and the prospects it offers in their respective fields. Getting the right decision therefore comes down to achieving the right balance in cost, quality and career aspirations in the acquisition of education. Though these programs are costly the return on investment for those who desire international accreditation as well as all-round educational experiences that can boost their career opportunities are worth investing in.
