What factors affect students’ decisions for choosing the type of course that leads to their respective careers?

It may seem that picking a major is a tedious task, particularly when you want to study in a foreign country. Some students have to worry about the education debt to be paid with their future salary. However, this does not hurt: know the difference between careers that need certain degrees and those that merely happen to be well-paying.

We all understand that in the present and future eras, technology is dominating all sectors. That is where engineering becomes interesting. Most of the time civil engineers require accredited degrees, particularly the Professional Engineer licence. But, what about software engineering? It is indeed possible to make it without a degree, but it definitely aids in having one. There are many professionals who have learnt the basics of technology certificates, but with experience and practice, they master advanced skills. These skills allow them to earn more even with less paid certificates. Certain professions will simply refuse to employ you unless you have the proper degree, and it is not a matter of taste but a matter of law and safety. Nursing is the ideal one. There is no way you can be a registered nurse without a nursing degree. A bachelor’s degree is also becoming the requirement of more and more hospitals, and so the outdated three-year programmes are becoming a thing of the past. There are no exceptions; there are no shortcuts. Healthcare is merciless all around. Doctors require medical school, pharmacists pharmacy school, and even dental hygienists usually require associate degrees in their discipline. Even if we compare the Indian medical facility for rural people to the facilities in foreign developed countries, India offers easy access to better diagnosis & prescription compared to other developed countries. That results in high demand for professional medical staff in countries like the USA, Canada, the UK, etc.  In most states law school is mandated by law. Another strict area is teaching. All states have education degrees and teaching certificates.

Other majors do not always lead to serious money, yet they are not always necessary. Take it this way: a baccalaureate degree translates to earning approximately 1432 dollars per week as compared to high school, which translates to 853 dollars, which is almost twice the amount! Civil Engineering is the leader with $123,000. You will plan bridges and water systems and will be outdoors, solving real infrastructure issues. Pharmacology costs us $142,000 – that is drug research, not a drug counter job. Aerospace Engineering ($136,000) is ideal to dream of spacecraft, and Computer Science ($107,000) remains hot in terms of artificial intelligence and cyber security opportunities. Psychology ($96,000) is not merely therapy, but it leads to HR, research, and consulting. Banking and investment positions are the result of finance ($92,000). It is the age of statistics ($89,000). Nursing ($87,000) has security and purpose as well as increasing demand.

It is not only your major that determines your salary. Location is massive; a software engineer earns 120,000 dollars in San Francisco and 80,000 in Kansas City. Twist: that Kansas City pay may indeed get you more when you include the cost of housing and living in it.

The size of a company also counts. Large companies usually have higher salary packages with extensive benefits, whereas smaller companies are flexible and have quicker promotions. The demand in the market is always changing. The industry that is hot today may become cold in five years as other industries come up. Your negotiation capability can increase your income no matter where you work.

With an associate degree, you find yourself in the workforce quicker and with less debt. You will begin to earn earlier; that is, earn back the money you spent on education faster. Associate degrees now take only six months in some accelerated programmes via the internet. However, bachelor graduates begin further up and earn much more in the long run; we are talking about hundreds of thousands of dollars over the course of your career.

Real Skills Note:

In addition to your major, there are some skills that will make you invaluable: technical expertise in AI and data analytics, flexibility and problem-solving, leadership and teamwork, communication, emotional intelligence, critical thinking and creativity.
