Restarting Education: Making a context shift towards rising skills demands in today’s ever growing competitive job market.

In the contemporary world, it is unusual to go through education and then have years or even decades of unbroken practice in one profession. Since industries and technologies are dynamically growing, the need for skills in the labor market is also in the process of constant change. For those who are already in the work force, but are considering re entering college, this shift in demand is both a blessing and a curse. In this way, education gives people an opportunity to acquire new qualifications, learn new professions to be prepared for various Labor market conditions.

The first big reason is the need to be relevant due to dynamic occupational requirements for skills in the job market after working for years. The changes in the extent of the automation augmented by the artificial intelligence and digitalization have widely impacted sectors such as manufacturing technology healthcare and even finance. If we take an example from manufacturing sector; that the repetitive jobs or low skill jobs are now performed with the help of automated machines but there is increase demand for the jobs skills such as analyzing data, working with robotics system and machine learning. People in the sector require to gain technical skills and knowledge on how to cooperate with new technologies since conventional skills are fading away.

Likewise, there are more recent occupations such as Information Technology, Security, Marketing specialists with outcomes in digital platforms, Programmers and Data Scientists to mention but a few. In finance, financial technology, or FinTech for short, has revolutionized the finance industry from banking to investment. The structure of the world economy is changing and moving toward the identification of more demanding hi-tech industries, and the demands of employment are increasingly technical and dynamic. A degree or certification in the new technologies will help one to find a new position or more secure one within an economy that is ever evolving.

In addition, taking the opportunity to restart education enables one to remain relevant in the market place as well as maintain openness at the workplace. For those who have already joined the work environment, it can be seen that coming back into school is a good way to brush up on the old information that has become rusty or to learn a new field altogether. This is particularly important for worker who may have realized that their roles are now automated or their industries are declining. People in the trade and production sector are required to retrain in IT and e-commerce to meet the demands of ever-changing economy.

Lifelong learning is not more of an option than it is a requirement in today’s society. Today, it is quite clear that many professionals appreciate that learning cannot be limited to the attainment of a single degree or a license. It is a process which can hardly be described as complete and which is going on steadily all the time. Since the development of convenient online platforms, working while studying as well as part-time and flexible learning has become possible. This flexibility means that people can acquire additional skills or change career and still be paid while learning.

Apart from practical knowledge, soft skills like, speaking, writing, organizing, thinking and decisions making skills have also become essential in every field. Today’s employers are in search of versatile employees with the ability to solve complex tasks, and deal with multi-teams and fast pace environment. The fact is that education programs, which include both technical and soft competencies, are especially useful in preparing workers for work in the future.

Therefore, entering the workforce and, consequently, the need to restart education is due to the updated requirements for the job market. There are many new technologies emerging in industries, and even large established practices can become obsolete; one has to be on the lookout for new approaches to make oneself more marketable. One should always prepare them with flexibility, technological skills and constant learning in labor market.
